Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Tampa, FL is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant. You will support your team from day one, comfort pet parents, and learn on the job across triage, treatments, and patient care.

Whether pursuing credentialed tech status or exploring your passion, VEG supports your growth every step of the way. You will work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians in a fast-paced ER, with opportunities to advance toward anesthesia support and ultrasound

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus)
• Basic computer skills and EMR software familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Stand for long periods; lift up to 25 kg alone, up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Must work in a noisy environment with odors.
• Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, IVs).
• Support anesthesia and sedation setup with credentialed staff.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, transfusions, and meds.
• Assist during all care moments, inpatient or outpatient.
• Join rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced roles (anesthesia support, ultrasound, catheterization).
