Job summary

VEG in Tampa, FL is seeking a Part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join the team from day one, supporting triage, treatments, and client communication while learning the ropes across ER cases.

You'll grow toward higher responsibilities through guided training, with a focus on compassionate care for pets and families, flexible scheduling, and opportunities for continued education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
• Works well in a fast-paced environment with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, IV access, oxygen).
• Collaborate with vet techs and veterinarians for anesthesia setup and monitoring.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood products, and meds.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings.
