Job summary

VEG ER for Pets in Fort Lauderdale seeks a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support a fast-paced emergency hospital. You’ll assist with triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia setup, and patient monitoring, working closely with veterinarians and licensed technicians.

Training pathways exist to expand into advanced care roles. Responsibilities include assisting in outpatient or inpatient care, managing IV fluids, and participating in CPR training as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR/software familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Ability to stand, kneel, lift up to 25 kg; work in noisy environment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage patients, guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Work with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood products, and medications.
• Support during outpatient or inpatient care, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds and maintain continuity of care.
