Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking a Veterinary Nursing Shift Lead in Chantilly, VA to coordinate patient care and lead the on-floor team during busy shifts. You will oversee workflow, coach staff, and ensure top-tier care for patients while supporting VEGgies in a fast-paced ER setting.

The role requires a credentialed veterinary technician or active VEG Credentialing Support participation, with 1+ year of ER or specialty experience and strong communication.

Qualifications

• CVT/RVT/LVMT credential preferred or enrolled in VEG Credentialing Support Program.
• 1+ year in veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty experience preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Ability to lead with empathy and maintain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Maintain pulse on patient status, team capacity, and shift needs.
• Direct daily workflow and pivot during unexpected events.
• Assign/adjust shift roles with clarity and care.
• Step in on floor when needed and support the team.
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, model calm under pressure.
• Lead shift transitions, huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and escalate key issues when necessary.
