Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Nurse Shift Lead to ensure smooth shift rhythm, top-tier patient care, and strong team support. You will coordinate breaks, coach staff, and maintain high standards of safety and operations on the floor.

You will guide team members, handle daily workflow, and partner with hospital leadership to maintain care quality in a fast-paced, emergency environment.

Qualifications

• Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) or enrolled in the VEG Credentialing Support Program.
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty medicine preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and pivot when the unexpected hits.
• Assign and adapt shift roles with clarity and care.
• Lead on-the-floor coaching and floor coverage as needed.
• Coordinate breaks and manage conflict resolution calmly.
• Lead shift transitions and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and escalate key issues.
• Turn downtime into learning time and growth opportunities.
• Flag incidents with transparency and growth mindset.
• Coordinate with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching.
