Job summary

VEG ER for Pets in Minnesota is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be at the heart of our fast-paced ER from day one. You will support the team, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes across triage, treatments, and monitoring.

We offer pathways to credentialed technician status, hands-on training, and mentorship, with growth into advanced roles such as anesthesia support. VEG ER for Pets is a Great Place to Work certified.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrollment in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role; emergency or specialty experience is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and steady support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging and catheter placement.
• Work with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient and inpatient settings, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization.
