Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team in New York. You will triage patients, assist with treatments, and collaborate with credentialed technicians and veterinarians to monitor anesthesia and sedation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR/practice management software knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Able to stand for long hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willing to work in a noisy environment with odors.
• Nights, weekends and holidays availability on rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Work with credentialed techs and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood products, and meds.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced roles like anesthesia support, ultrasound, catheterization.
