Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support triage, treatments, and monitoring in fast-paced ER settings. You’ll work closely with credentialed technicians and veterinarians, helping pets and their parents from day one while learning essential skills in emergency care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR systems.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Stand for long hours, lift up to 25 kg alone and up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Able to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients, guide to care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Support anesthesia and sedation with credentialed VTs and veterinarians.
• Set up and monitor IV fluids, blood products, and medications.
• Assist during all care moments, inpatient or outpatient, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and become RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
• Grow into more advanced responsibilities via training pathways.
