Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in New York is hiring an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support triage, treatments, and monitoring from day one. You’ll work with credentialed staff, assist with diagnostics and anesthesia, and help ensure high-quality care for pets and their families.

The role focuses on hands-on learning, compassionate patient support, and opportunities to advance into anesthesia, ultrasound, and specialized procedures through VEG’s training pathways.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role, emergency or specialty experience a bonus.
• Strong communication skills with pet parents and teams.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with clinicians.
• Manage IV fluids, blood products, and medications.
• Support care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Join rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization via training.
