Job summary

VEG in Cary, NC, is hiring a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team from day one. You will triage patients, comfort pet parents, and assist with treatments and procedures in a fast-paced ER setting.

The role offers growth through training pathways, including CPR and RECOVER certification, with opportunities to advance to anesthesia support and ultrasound. Evening, weekend, and holiday coverage is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.

Responsibilities

• Triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with credentialed staff.
• Manage IV fluids, blood products, and medication administration.
• Support in outpatient or inpatient care from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds to stay updated on patient status.
