Job summary

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting the team, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time. You’ll participate in triage, treatments, and the care process, while pursuing growth toward credentialed technician roles and advanced responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years as veterinary assistant (emergency or specialty preferred).
• Basic computer skills and practice management software understanding.
• Excellent communication with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for patients and equipment.
• Ability to stand long hours, lift up to 25 kg (40 with assistance).
• Willing to work in a noisy environment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and a steady support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, from bloodwork and imaging to catheter placement and oxygen support.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Assist during every moment of care: outpatient or inpatient, exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds and stay close to the clinical picture to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
• Grow into more advanced responsibilities, such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization through guided training paths.
