Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support our emergency team from day one. You will help with triage, treatments, and ongoing patient care while learning from credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

You’ll provide compassionate support to pet parents, assist with anesthesia setup and monitoring, and grow toward advanced responsibilities through guided training pathways. Nights, weekends, and holidays are required on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ year in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.
• Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
• Able to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willing to work in a noisy environment with odors; nights, weekends, holidays required.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients, guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, diagnostics, bloodwork, imaging, and catheter placement.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with credentialed staff.
• Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care across outpatient and inpatient settings from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
