Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) seeks individuals for seasonal on-call duty during snow events and severe weather to support road-clearing operations. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, applying abrasives and chemicals, and performing debris removal.

The role requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs, day/night shifts, and a valid CDL with DOT medical card. Employees will participate in preventative maintenance on equipment and may be called in for additional duties as

Qualifications

Ability to perform heavy manual labor, standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
Must possess CDL and DOT medical card and maintain thereafter.
Safety shoes required.
Valid Driver's License.
Experience operating medium and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

Emergency Operations: Assist and support operations for clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals on road surfaces.
Manual Labor: Perform heavy manual labor such as installing tire chains, plow, and blades, and debris removal.
Perform duties as assigned: Tasks and projects as assigned.
Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on equipment used to clear roadways during inclement weather events.
