Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking seasonal winter operations personnel to assist in snow and ice removal on roadways, and to operate heavy equipment in support of emergency responses during storms.

Roles may require 12-hour day or night shifts, adherence to safety protocols, and pre-employment screenings. Applicants should hold a CDL and a DOT medical card, be able to lift up to 50 lbs, and comply with background checks and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor including standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Willingness to work day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
• Must possess CDL and DOT medical card and maintain compliance with DOT/VDOT policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in snow/ice removal and apply abrasives to road surfaces.
• Operate medium to heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, graders, and tractors.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment used for winter operations.
• Support emergency operations during weather events and other incidents.
