Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking on-call winter operations personnel to support snow removal, ice treatment, and storm response across Virginia. These roles involve heavy manual labor and operating equipment as trained, with a focus on safety and reliability.

Candidates should be able to work day or night shifts, fulfill pre-employment screenings, and adapt to emergencies outside normal hours. CDL and DOT medical card holders are preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor including lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Experience operating medium and heavy equipment is preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: assist in snow/ice removal and apply abrasives.
• Operate heavy equipment as trained to clear roadways.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment used in winter operations.
• Work 12-hour shifts, day or night, during emergencies.
