Job summary

Fairview is seeking an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to support the ED team at East Bank University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

The ERT assists nurses, transports patients and supplies, maintains rooms, documents care, and may perform patient-care tasks as directed. 0.80 FTE, 64 hours every two weeks, 8-hour evening shifts 3pm–11:30pm with an every other weekend rotation.

Qualifications

• BLS certification and ONE of the following: EMT/ERT, Paramedic, CNA MN Registry, or nursing program enrollment.
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care).
• Completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.
• LPN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Inform RN of patient observations and concerns.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights/requests.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join our ED team at our East Bank University Hospitalin Minneapolis, MN.

The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the ERT may be assigned patient care responsibilities.

Schedule: This position will be working 0.80 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours evening shifts 3pm-11:30pm with an every other weekend rotation.

Job Expectations:

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart


• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning


• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns


• Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests


• Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality


• Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities


• Obtains ordered specimens from patient


• Transports specimens and blood products


• Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures


• Assists in resuscitation


• Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities


• Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.


• Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely


• Maintains room/unit and supplies


• Restocks room, supplies, and carts


• Assists with patient room clean-up between patients


• Completes room and cart checklist


• Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment


• Completes quality control checklist


• Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager

Required Qualifications (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following):

• Current EMT or ERT certification


• Current Paramedic certification


• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry


• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)


• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)


• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program


• LPN licensure

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years of Emergency Department experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)


• Current experience as a CNA or NST
