Job summary

Fairview Lakes Medical Center, part of Fairview Health Services, seeks an Emergency Department Technician (EDT) for the Wyoming, MN ED. The role supports nurses, transports patients, maintains rooms, and manages supplies on 0.6 FTE with alternating evenings and nights and every-other-weekend shifts.

Eligible candidates include those with EMT/ERT or CNA MN Registry, or LPN/RN/NP students. BLS certification is required, plus six months of patient care experience or completion of the OnTrack

Qualifications

• Must have BLS certification.
• Current EMT or ERT certification or CNA on MN Registry.
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester).
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care).
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.
• LPN licensure is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart.
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning.
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns.
• Responds to patient call lights/requests.
• Maintains patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
• Performs tasks with adaptations based on patient age and development.
• Obtains ordered specimens and transports them.
• Assists in resuscitation and acts as a nurse extender.
• Documents patient care activities in the nursing records.
• Restocks room, supplies, and carts.
• Completes room and cart checklist.
• Performs quality control checks on equipment and reports discrepancies.

Fairview is looking for an Emergency Department Technician (EDT) to join our ED team at our Fairview Lakes hospital in Wyoming, MN. The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the EDT may be assigned patient care responsibilities.

Schedule: This position will be 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks) 8 hour evening/night shifts with an every other weekend rotation.

Job Expectations

Provides patient care:

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns
• Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
• Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
• Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
• Obtains ordered specimens from patient
• Transports specimens and blood products
• Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
• Assists in resuscitation
• Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities

Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.

• Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely

Maintains room/unit and supplies

• Restocks room, supplies, and carts
• Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
• Completes room and cart checklist

Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment

• Completes quality control checklist
• Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager

Required Qualifications (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following)

• Current EMT or ERT certification
• Current Paramedic certification
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
• LPN licensure

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of Emergency Department experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)
• Current experience as a CNA or NST
