The City of St. Louis is seeking an Emergency Management Public Information Officer to lead communications for the City Emergency Management Agency. The role focuses on emergency preparedness and messaging, including press materials, social media, and web content.

During emergencies, the PIO supports the Emergency Operations Center, Joint Information Center, and community outreach. Strong writing, media relations, and coordination across city teams are essential.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing and editing across press releases, articles, speeches, and social posts.
• Experience with public information and media relations for public safety or government.
• Ability to develop pre-scripted emergency messages and information materials.
• Experience with multilingual or accessible communications preferred.
• Familiarity with social media platforms, content creation, and basic analytics.
• Ability to coordinate with city web team and ITSA for accessible web content.

Responsabilités

• Writes and edits press releases, news articles, speeches, talking points, and video/TV scripts on emergency management and public safety.
• Develops and maintains a library of pre-scripted emergency messages and templates.
• Manages CEMA's social media accounts, content planning, posting, and basic performance reporting.
• Drafts public information products during responses; coordinates with JIC and EOC.
• Coordinates interview requests and acts as a liaison with media and partner agencies.
