Job summary

6 Degrees Search is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician for a hospital-employed, full-time role in Mattoon, Illinois. The position features three 10-hour shifts (6a–4p, 1p–11p, 4p–2a) across a 32-bed ED, with double-physician coverage and a focus on minimizing burnout.

Compensation is $475,000 per year plus generous bonuses, a comprehensive benefits package, and a stable practice environment that supports work-life balance and professional growth.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• BC/BE in Emergency Medicine or extensive ED experience.
• Active, unrestricted Illinois medical license or imminent eligibility.
• Valid DEA registration.
• Strong interpersonal and team-oriented communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency medical care to patients in a 32-bed ED.
• Maintain a low patient encounters pace, averaging fewer than two per hour.
• Collaborate with a second on-duty physician to ensure double-physician coverage.
• Stabilize and coordinate transfers for high-acuity trauma and major cardiac cases to tertiary partners.
• Work a predictable rotation of 15 shifts per month in three 10-hour blocks (6:00–4:00, 13:00–23:00, 16:00–02:00).
• Coordinate patient care with on-site specialties including inpatient psychiatry.
• Maintain thorough, timely electronic medical records for all encounters.
