Job summary

Depending on training and assignment, you may provide instructions before responders arrive, following protocols and oversight requirements. Overnight and weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or recognized equivalent is required.
• Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification may be required before appointment.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies.
• Confirm patient location, callback number, and access details.
• Ask approved questions about patient condition.
• Determine response priority using the medical dispatch system.
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when assigned.
• Provide protocol-based instructions within qualifications.
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responders.
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities.
