Job summary

County Emergency Communications seeks Emergency Medical Dispatchers to handle urgent medical calls, confirm locations and access details, and guide responders using approved protocols. You will assess conditions, determine priorities, and coordinate ambulance resources as part of a multi-agency team.

Role may involve overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on the assignment and scheduling needs. Prior EMS dispatcher experience and CPR certification are advantageous.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is commonly required; some vacancies may sponsor training or require current Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification before appointment.
• CPR certification and additional coursework may be required.
• EMD certification is preferred but not universal; consult the vacancy for exact qualifications and accepted providers.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies
• Confirm the patient’s location, callback number, and access details
• Ask approved questions about the patient’s condition
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when included in the assignment
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities
