Job summary

County Emergency Communications seeks an Emergency Medical Dispatcher to handle urgent medical calls, verify locations, and coordinate dispatch priorities. You will follow approved protocols and may provide instructions before responders arrive, under medical oversight.

Requirements include a high school diploma, CPR certification, and possibly EMT/paramedic credentials depending on the vacancy. The role involves shift work, overtime, and continuous EMS operations.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or recognized equivalent is commonly required.
• EMD certification may be required before appointment.
• CPR certification is often required; additional coursework may be needed.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies.
• Confirm the patient's location, callback number, and access details.
• Ask approved questions about the patient's condition.
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system.
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when included in the assignment.
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications.
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel.
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities.
