Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician III to provide direct patient care under licensed supervision, perform essential monitoring, and support multiple units including ED, ICU, and telemetry. The role involves assisting with procedures, phlebotomy in some locations, and ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Candidate must have high school education or GED, current BLS, strong English communication, and competency in PCT II or 1 year of acute care experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support.
• Demonstrated competency in PCT II or 1 year of acute care/hospital experience or 1 year of EMT/Paramedic experience.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Medical Terminology.
• Computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to gather information and build relationships.
• Problem-solving abilities for routine situations; seek direction when needed.
• Remain calm under stress or in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under licensed clinician supervision; assist with activities of daily living; observe and report patient changes.
• Assist with safety, equipment setup, and proper body mechanics; de-escalate situations.
• Perform vital signs, basic EKGs, POC tests, and specimen collection per hospital standards.
• Assist with treatments/procedures and prepare equipment; support patient positioning and emotional needs.
• Maintain logs, patient care charts, and unit supplies; communicate effectively with team.
