Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician III to provide direct patient care under licensed clinicians. You will support high-acuity units, assist with activities of daily living, perform vital signs, EKGs, and POC tests, and help with device setup and specimen collection.

Must have a high school diploma or GED and Basic Life Support. Acute care or EMT experience is preferred, with strong communication and teamwork skills essential for this role.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support.
• 1 year of acute care/hospital experience or 1 year of EMT Paramedic experience.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Medical Terminology and basic computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and problem solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist in creating a safe environment and de-escalation strategies as directed.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Move, lift, position, and transport patients with proper safety techniques.
• Maintain patient safety through checks and fall-prevention measures.
• Take and record vital signs; measure height and weight.
• Perform EKGs, Point of Care tests, and collect lab specimens.
• Assist with treatments and equipment setup; provide emotional support.
• Perform unit secretary duties when needed and answer inquiries.
• Replenish supplies and stay updated with unit changes.
