Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician III to join the Emergency Department in Worcester. Under licensed clinicians, you will support patient care, monitor high-risk patients, and assist with procedures and tests.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team ensuring patient comfort and safety. The role requires strong communication, English proficiency, and the ability to handle diverse tasks in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.
• 1 year of acute care/hospital experience or EMT Paramedic experience or PCT II competency.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Medical Terminology and computer skills required.
• Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and calmness under stress.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations.
• Monitor high-risk patients and maintain a safe environment.
• Assist with daily living activities and patient transport as needed.
• Take and record vital signs; perform EKGs and POC tests; collect specimens.
• Assist with treatments and procedures and prepare equipment.
• Answer phones and relay messages; replenish supplies.
• Maintain unit equipment and adapt to unit secretary or telemetry duties as assigned.
• Follow safety policies and de-escalation techniques when needed.
• Operate within standards of respect and professionalism with patients and staff.
