Job summary

Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque, NM is hiring a Patient Access Advocate I - Emergency Department. You will perform patient registration, collect demographics and insurance information, verify eligibility, and document in the ADT system to ensure clean billing.

Responsibilities include delivering exceptional patient service using CARES/AIDET/EPE, educating patients on benefits and liabilities, ensuring financial clearance at point of service, and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required; 6 months healthcare setting or 1 year customer service background preferred.
• Pass 2 week Patient Access Academy with a passing score of 85% or higher (within 6 mos of start).
• CHAA, CHAM or other industry equivalent certification preferred.
• Basic understanding of insurance preferred.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) preferred.
• Requires basic understanding of registration and healthcare.
• Demonstrated strong keyboarding skills for efficient data entry and documentation.
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office Products.
• Pass EPIC proficiency test required with an 85% score at completion of the Epic Training class.

Responsibilities

• Performs the patient registration process and collects demographic and financial information for the account.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; document actions in the system of record to ensure audit trail.
• Maintain knowledge of authorization requirements and payer guidelines; ensure compliance with CMS guidelines.
• Educate patients on insurance benefits and liabilities; assist with financial clearance at time of service.
• Ensure accurate completion of MSPQ at time of service; collect and explain patient liabilities.
• Provide exceptional patient experience using CARES, AIDET and EPE tools; support de-escalation when needed.
• Maintain accurate records and timely documentation; monitor data quality and follow-up on issues.
