Job summary

MaineHealth seeks a Patient Access Associate I to work on-site in the 24/7 Emergency Department. You will be the first contact for patient identification, armband application, and ED check-in; supporting visitors and families with care and information.

Responsibilities include demographic capture, insurance verification, consent, admissions, and coordinating transfers when needed, while ensuring accurate billing follow-up post-discharge. This is a flexible, open-shift role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in healthcare or customer service is preferred.
• Computer and data entry experience with Word, e-mail, and internet communication is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first point of contact in the Emergency Department to identify patients and apply armbands.
• Provide customer service and support for visitors and families.
• Assist with demographic collection, insurance verification, consent, and admissions; support transfers/direct admits and check-out.
