Job summary

Essentia Health in Duluth, MN is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support Emergency Services operations at St Marys Medical Center. Under direction of a provider, you enter verbal orders into Epic, scribes during trauma, and assist non-nursing tasks in collaboration with nurses.

You will coordinate with radiology, laboratory, and patient transport, obtain information from facilities for attending physicians, and respond to call lights while coordinating with nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Completion of a health unit coordinator program or medical secretary program.
• 1 year experience or training in a hospital or clinic setting if no formal education.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate flow with radiology, laboratory, and patient transport.
• Enter verbal orders into Epic and scribes during trauma.
• Support non-nursing functions in collaboration with nurses.
• Coordinate and document requests for Hospitalists via Stat Doc and physicians via Med Direct.
• Obtain information from other facilities for attending physicians.
• Answer call lights and coordinate with nursing staff.
• Perform clerical and reception duties; requisition supplies and services.
• Monitor security cameras and respond to access requests.
