Job summary

Northwestern Medicine's Emergency Department Assistant role supports the Registered Nurse in delivering direct and indirect patient care in a busy ED setting.

Under supervision, the ED Assistant assists with wound care, vitals, specimen collection, and patient transports, while adhering to policies and safety standards. A high school diploma and CPR are required; phlebotomy/ECG skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous patient care experience required with effective communication.
• CPR certification from American Heart Association.
• Phlebotomy and ECG skills preferred.
• College degree or interest in health care field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists Registered Nurse in direct and indirect patient care.
• Follows policies, procedures and standards of care.
• Facilitates patient flow and supports health care team.
• Performs wound care and atraumatic care measures as directed.
• Prepares patient and room for assessments and procedures.
• Documents care and maintains accurate patient records.
