Job summary

Chatham County Emergency Communications Center seeks an assistant to the Shift Supervisor to lead the floor, coordinate dispatch operations, and ensure adherence to policies and protocols. You may act as Shift Supervisor when needed and support training and performance feedback.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with solid emergency communications experience, knowledge of CAD and radio systems, and the ability to make rapid decisions under pressure while maintaining a professional

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with substantial emergency communications experience.
• Thorough knowledge of public safety communications operations, procedures, and best practices.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent operational decisions under pressure.
• Ability to provide leadership and guidance without formal supervisory authority.
• Must be able to work outside normal hours during emergencies or special events.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Emergency Communications Shift Supervisor with day-to-day operations and provides operational leadership on the floor.
• Acts as a resource and point of contact for operational questions and routine issues, escalating as needed.
• Provides mentoring, coaching, and support to communications personnel and fosters a professional work environment.
• Serves as Acting Shift Supervisor when the Shift Supervisor is absent, assuming supervisory responsibilities as needed.
• Maintains staffing coverage and monitors equipment status, staffing levels, and resources.
