Job summary

Halifax County Government seeks a Telecommunicator to coordinate dispatch of law enforcement, EMS, fire, and other responders for emergencies and non-emergencies. You will work at a communications console for extended periods, analyze radio traffic, and maintain precise typing while communicating with the public and responders.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to obtain DCI, Basic Telecommunicator, EMD, and CPR certifications.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain/maintain DCI, Basic Telecommunicator, EMD and CPR certifications.
• Experience in computerized dispatching or in law-enforcement, EMS, or fire dispatching is preferred.
• Knowledge of the Halifax County area is a plus.
• Typing speed of 35 wpm is required.

Responsibilities

• Dispatching law enforcement, medical, fire, rescue and other equipment and personnel in response to emergencies and non-emergencies.
• Work at a communications console for extended periods.
• Analyze communications and type accurately.
• Speak clearly and distinctly under stressful conditions.
