Job summary

The City of Madison, Alabama, is seeking a dedicated Public Safety Dispatcher for the Huntsville‑Madison County 911 Center. You will coordinate personnel, vehicles, and resources to deliver timely public safety responses, triage calls, and guide responders in high‑stress situations.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, experience in fast‑paced environments, and comfort operating CAD, radio consoles, MDTs, and related software.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience in fast-paced, information and tasks heavy environment is a plus.
• Experience in customer service, conflict mediation, and account management is a plus.
• Experience operating multiple Windows-based computer systems desired.
• Experience in public safety, telecommunications, or related fields is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Receive, triage, and prioritize incoming requests from Law Enforcement, Fire/Rescue, Animal Control, and Code Enforcement.
• Maintain focus on caller and first responder safety at all times.
• Provide clear instructions to callers, including during life‑threatening situations.
• Dispatch Police Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics, and other city services via multi‑channel radio systems.
• Accurately document all call details in databases and prepare records for legal use.
