Job summary

The Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority is hiring a Public Safety Dispatcher to operate a multi-system communications environment, disseminating information to field units and agencies during emergencies. You will maintain calm, coordinate with ATC and airport staff, and activate recall plans as needed.

A two-year associate or four-year bachelor’s degree is preferred, with NCIC/APCO certification pursued within stated timelines.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of emergency communications principles and practices.
• Knowledge of emergency dispatch procedures.
• Knowledge of radio and telecommunications equipment.
• Knowledge of ACJIC/NCIC policies and procedures.
• Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
• Skill in oral and written communications.
• Knowledge of local geography, street names, and municipal boundaries.
• Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to coordinate communications quickly and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Operate multiple technology systems (radio, fire/life safety, access control, PA) for incident information flow.
• Disseminate information to field units, agencies, and airport personnel during emergencies.
• Maintain communication throughout incidents and activate recall plans when required.
• Manage records and telemetry across dispatch channels and APCO/NCIC-compliant platforms.
