Job summary

The City of Norcross is seeking a Full-time Communications Officer I to support public safety communications. This entry-level role handles incoming calls, screens requests, and dispatches police and related personnel using radio, telephony, CAD, NCIC/GCIC access, and CivicReady systems.

As part of the communications team, you will monitor cameras, relay information to officers, maintain logs, and participate in coordinating responses with external agencies.

Qualifications

• High School education or GED.
• 1–2 years of experience in a customer service or telecommunications position.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
• Ability to obtain GCIC/NCIC certification within 6 months of appointment.
• Ability to complete GA P.O.S.T. Basic Communications Certification course within 6 months of appointment.
• Telephone CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communications traffic for emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Receives and screens all incoming telephone calls; categorizes and prioritizes calls.
• Assists the public by providing directions and information via CivicReady and the Tornado Siren System.
• Dispatches emergency personnel to incident locations.
• Monitors cameras throughout the city and communicates with officers as needed.
• Monitors city parks and dispatches personnel when required.
• Maintains a continuous log of incoming radio calls.
• Enter and verify information into NCIC/GCIC networks; support court and officer needs.
