Job summary

Built for the Badge is seeking an Emergency Communications Dispatcher to handle emergency and administrative calls and coordinate dispatch for fire and police responders. You will use CAD and radio networks to guide responders and deliver critical instructions while learning radio dispatch procedures.

The role reports to the Emergency Communications Supervisor and requires readiness to handle high-stress situations with accuracy and teamwork in a public safety setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two years of medical, fire, or police dispatch experience, or one year as a communications operator with a public safety organization using CAD.
  • Qualifying education, training, and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency and administrative calls.
  • Provide pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions as warranted.
  • Dispatch the most appropriate emergency response personnel using CAD and a land mobile radio network.
  • Learn to dispatch radio systems for fire and police.

Job description

The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform the technical work needed to process calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance, and to dispatch fire and police responders to those requests for services. The work responsibilities of this position include answering emergency and administrative calls, providing pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions as warranted, and dispatching the most appropriate emergency response personnel using a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and a land mobile radio network. Employees in this position will learn to dispatch radio systems for fire and police. Emergency Communications Dispatchers are direct reports to the Emergency Communications Supervisor.

A high school diploma or GED, and two (2) years of medical, fire, or police dispatch experience, or one (1) year of experience working as a communications operator with a public safety organization using a computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) is a must.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
