Job summary

Tufts University’s Department of Public Safety seeks a Dispatcher I for the Medford campus. You will answer calls for service, dispatch officers, manage radio communications, and input data into CAD and alarm systems. The role requires calm under pressure and multitasking across several networks.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED required.
• Strong customer-relations skills; able to work under high-stress situations.
• Ability to multitask across multiple duties.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• CPR certification (will be provided if not already certified).
• CJIS Operator certification within first 30 days of employment.
• APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator I certification within 6 months or NAED Emergency Medical Dispatch when available.
• Ability to learn and use CAD, Records Management System, CJIS terminal, alarm monitoring systems, and access control systems.
• Psychological and medical exam, background investigation, and fingerprint checks are required.

Responsibilities

• Answer calls for police service and manage police radio communications.
• Dispatch Tufts police and security personnel to calls for service.
• Enter and track calls for service in CAD and incident reports.
• Monitor alarm systems and coordinate responses to violations.
• Maintain logs, records, and shift task entries.
• Communicate effectively with the university community and other agencies.
