Job summary

UMass Boston is seeking a Dispatcher II for the University Police Department. This entry-level, non-sworn role supports the Police Communication Center by handling CAD dispatch, 911 and non-emergency calls, and radio communications.

You will document actions in CAD, coordinate with campus and external agencies, and respond calmly under pressure. Certification by APCO and fingerprinting are required; varied shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to type and handle multiple computer monitoring systems.
  • Clear and concise English communication, both written and spoken.
  • Experience with radio systems and dispatch procedures is advantageous.
  • APCO certification and fingerprinting are required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, prioritize, and transmit first notification of police, fire, and medical calls.
  • Operate a fixed and campus radio system; coordinate with internal and external agencies.
  • Document actions and outcomes in CAD; maintain accurate records.
  • Disseminate information to department personnel during routine and emergencies.
  • Maintain calm, make quick decisions, and exercise good judgment in stressful situations.
