Responsibilities

  • Handles requests via walk-in, telephone, callbox, cellular and radio to the University Police Station and processes those requests by giving out or extracting pertinent information, routing the call to the proper person or dispatching the proper resource.
  • Monitors all emergency alarms on campus (intrusion, panic, emergency call box, fire) and reports incidents.
  • Utilizes surveillance camera systems and assists investigators with recorded video.
  • Utilizes Onguard access system software and remotely controls building access.
  • Utilizes Computer Aided Dispatch system and documents all interactions with the public.
  • Transmits and receives information via two-way radio, cellular, radio scanner, Internet and LAN.
  • Provide Basic Pre-arrival instructions to those in need of medical assistance.
  • Aid Shift Supervisors to close open cases as directed.
  • Completes clerical assignments as needed.
  • Keeps a clean and organized work area.

Job Description

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for all communications via telephone and radio frequency within the University Police dispatch area, monitors all alarms and surveillance equipment. The Dispatcher assists the public with information and directions and performs other duties as required.

Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handles requests via walk-in, telephone, callbox, cellular, and radio to the University Police Station and processes those requests by giving out or extracting pertinent information, routing the call to the proper person or dispatching the proper resource.
  • Monitors all emergency alarms on campus, including intrusion, panic, emergency call box, and fire.
  • Utilizes surveillance camera systems and assists investigators with recorded video.
  • Utilizes Onguard access system software and remotely controls building access.
  • Utilizes Computer Aided Dispatch system. Accurately documents all interactions with the public.
  • Utilizes CJIS, NCIC, Openfox and CJIS Web and other electronic data gathering tools.
  • Transmit and receive information via two-way radio, cellular telephone, radio scanner, Internet, and Local Area Networks.
  • Provide Basic Pre-arrival instructions to those in need of medical assistance.
  • Aid Shift Supervisors to bring closure to all open cases as directed.
  • Completes clerical assignments as needed.
  • Keeps a clean and organized work area.

Additional Information

Shift Information: Full-time, benefited AFSCME Unit II position. Shifts and hours are determined by the shift bid process in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits-eligible position in the AFSCME bargaining unit with a title Communication Dispatcher. The bi-weekly pay rate is $1,935.36, grade 11, Step 05, which equates to an annual salary of $50,319.36. This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
