Job summary

The City of Lufkin Police Department is seeking a Communications Operator to dispatch police, fire, and city services, coordinating 9-1-1 calls and non-emergency requests. You will monitor multi-channel radio, teletype, and telephone systems, ensuring rapid, accurate information flow to field units.

You must be at least 18, fluent in English, type 40 wpm, and pass licensing and background checks. This hourly position offers a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities to work varied shifts

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Typing speed of 40 words per minute corrected.
• Pass two state licensing courses and licensing test within the first year.
• Must pass polygraph and background investigation.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Be fluent in English.
• Reside within 30 minutes of the Lufkin Police Department.

Responsibilities

• Dispatches police, fire/rescue, and after-hours city services.
• Monitors and coordinates telephone, radio, and teletype communications between unit personnel and the public.
• Receive, process, and disseminate information for expeditious emergency responses.
• Maintain records and data with adherence to departmental rules and regulations.
