Bassett Healthcare Network in Cooperstown seeks an Emergency Service Technician to support urgent and emergency care in our ED. You will perform treatments, assist with patient flow, vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, and resuscitation under supervision.

The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and adherence to hospital protocols, with opportunities to train new ED staff and participate in decontamination and quality checks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of patient care experience preferred.
• BLS certification required within 6 months from date of hire.

Responsabilités

• Performs patient treatments assigned by the RN and other health care team members.
• Receives direction and assignments from physicians and nurses and provides technical support to optimize patient care.
• Responsible for reporting on the condition of patient/client to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members.
• Coordinate and assist with care and patient flow by initiating collection of specimens or treatment as directed.
• Utilize critical thinking to enhance patient flow and maintain high standard of care.
• Assist in training of new ED Technicians on duties in the Emergency Department.
• Mentor and monitor ED Technicians as directed by RN or Provider.
• Assist with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures.
• Obtain and document vital signs and placement of O2 saturation, cardiac monitoring, and BP monitoring systems.
• Assist with 12-lead EKGs, IV management, phlebotomy, and specimen handling for lab testing.
• Manage and decontaminate equipment and supplies.
• Participate in the Emergency Decontamination Team.
• Assist with patient positioning, splints, and dressings.
• Measure and fit crutches and canes; instruct patients on use.
• Maintain equipment and monitor expiration dates.
• Participate in team meetings and in-services; support admission and discharge processes.
• Alert RN/healthcare team to significant changes in patient condition.
• Respond to patient requests and call lights in a timely manner.
• Maintain safe, comfortable environment in accordance with hospital standards.
• Function effectively in emergency situations.
• Assist with restrained patients as directed.
• Apply clinical knowledge to patient care per diagnoses.
• Perform safety attendant duties and monitor at-risk patients as directed.
• Support Environment of Care safety checks and monitor specimen refrigerators.
