Job summary

Spang Power Electronics, a division of Spang & Company, is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for the Mentor, OH location to lead embedded software development and team leadership. The role covers firmware architecture, real-time control on MCUs/DSPs/FPGA, and cross-functional collaboration with hardware and product teams.

The candidate will own the full SDLC, drive best practices, and mentor a small team with hands-on debugging and 10% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• 7+ years of embedded software development experience.
• At least 2 years in engineering team leadership.
• Strong experience in digital control of power systems, including PID control.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for real-time embedded systems.
• Experience with RTOS environments.
• Familiarity with TI C2000 and ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
• Experience with embedded web servers such as lwIP, uIP.
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power analyzers.
• Strong understanding of power electronics concepts and control theory.
• Experience developing embedded web interfaces using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of embedded software for digital power control systems.
• Architect and implement firmware for real-time control on MCUs, DSPs, or FPGAs using C/C++.
• Manage and mentor a team of 2–5 engineers; conduct code reviews and performance evaluations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, systems, and product teams to define software requirements.
• Drive best practices in embedded development, including version control, unit testing, and documentation.
• Own the full software development lifecycle from concept to production and support.
• Perform debugging of complex embedded systems in lab environments.
• Occasional travel, up to 10%.
