Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in Schaumburg, IL. The role focuses on modern C++ firmware for Cortex-M4F microcontrollers, driver development, and USB stack enhancements within a Zephyr RTOS environment.

Responsibilities include implementing ETL-based state machines, developing device drivers, and optimizing memory, timing, and power while adhering to a no-exceptions, no-heap-after-initialization policy.

Qualifications

• Proficient in modern C++17+ for embedded firmware.
• Experience with microcontrollers and driver development.
• RTOS experience with Zephyr preferred and USB stack work.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement components and modules in C++ within an embedded framework.
• Develop and harden Device Abstraction Layer drivers for SPI, I2C, USB, UART, GPIO, timers, DMA.
• Extend USB stack to support CCID and related functionality.
• Optimize memory, timing, and power with static analysis and on-target measurements.
• Ensure no-exceptions and no-heap-after-initialization policy with robust error handling.
• Work in Zephyr RTOS environment to integrate drivers and middleware.
• Apply secure coding practices in firmware features.
