Job summary

Actalent in Northfield, IL is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop robust embedded software for rugged devices including pan/tilt positioners and camera systems. You will work on 32-bit MCUs, SOMs, and embedded Linux, interfacing with sensors and motor drivers.

Responsibilities include design reviews, debugging, and improving software performance, while mentoring teammates in a fast-paced, defense-oriented environment. Hybrid work in Northfield, IL is offered.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
Experience in embedded web technologies, ONVIF, video-based object tracking, and GUI development.
Strong proficiency in HTML, JavaScript, PHP, Python, C++, and C# on Embedded Linux or similar platforms.
Hands-on experience with embedded Linux environments and 32-bit microcontrollers or SOMs.
Experience with serial communication using ASCII and binary protocols (MODBUS, IBM BiSync, SONY VISCA, PELCO-D).
Experience implementing RTOS and TCP/IP stacks on embedded platforms.
Experience with embedded device networking and variable internet conditions.
Ability to debug and troubleshoot embedded systems and prototyping boards.

Responsibilities

Initiate and implement efforts to detect, solve, and prevent recurrence of design problems while reducing costs.
Stay current with new technologies and mentor team members.
Develop and support embedded software for boards interfacing with sensors, motor drivers, and hardware.
Maintain, enhance, and refactor existing software for embedded boards.
Design and develop control software using HTML, JavaScript, PHP, Python, C++, and C# for embedded systems.
Lead and participate in design reviews for software requirements and architectures.
Create and release software designs ensuring functionality and conformance to standards.
Perform failure analysis on returned units and implement corrective actions.
Debug and troubleshoot embedded systems and prototyping boards.
Use network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers to validate system behavior.
Support products in OEM environments and ensure integration with customer systems.
Contribute to software specifications and resolve performance issues.
