Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a founding engineer embedded in Compliance to identify high-impact automation opportunities, prototype rapid solutions on Coinbase's AI platform, and drive measurable adoption across the organization. Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering and evaluation frameworks.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, and audit-ready data handling.
• Experience in forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or embedded advisory roles in compliance-tech or financial services.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface high-leverage automation opportunities.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as baseline before building new solutions.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership, translating regulatory workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and evaluate internal builds vs. external procurements.
• Ensure automation outputs are auditable, defensible, and traceable for regulators.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags and prototype walkthroughs with Compliance teams.
