Job summary

Coinbase seeks a founding engineer to embed within Compliance, reporting to the Office of the CTO. You will surface high-value automation opportunities in transaction monitoring and regulatory workflows, prototype rapidly on Coinbase's AI platform, and drive adoption of AI tooling across the Compliance org.

You will define the automation roadmap, translate regulatory processes into engineering requirements, and ensure outputs are auditable, defensible, and compliant with regulations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems in stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompts, evaluation, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, and audit-ready data handling.
• Knowledge of multi-agent orchestration, handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in Forward Deployed/embedded engineering roles in compliance-tech or financial services.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface high-leverage automation opportunities.
• Prototype using Coinbase's AI platform as the foundation before building new tools.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership, translating workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and evaluate internal vs external options.
• Ensure automated outputs are traceable, reviewable, and auditable for regulators.
• Drive adoption through brown-bag sessions, walkthroughs, and feedback loops.
