Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a founding engineer for Compliance automation. You will embed with Compliance leadership to surface high-leverage automation, prototype with the AI platform, and shape the automation roadmap across case resolution, trade surveillance, risk assessment, and policy management.

You will ensure auditability and human-in-the-loop controls while driving adoption among Compliance teams and stakeholders across the organization.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments with production systems.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering and human-in-the-loop design.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory systems concepts (transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, audit-ready data).
• Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration, handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded advisory roles in compliance/RegTech.
• Use of generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow metrics.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface high-leverage automation opportunities.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the foundation for solutions.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership, translating regulatory workflows into engineering specs.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling.
• Ensure outputs are traceable, auditable, and regulator-defensible with proper controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bag sessions, walkthroughs, and feedback loops.
