Job summary

South Carolina Department of Social Services seeks an Eligibility Specialist I to administer SNAP, ESAP, and TANF in the Economic Services Division. This role conducts daily interviews, determines eligibility for benefits, and maintains confidential client case records while ensuring compliance with laws and agency policies.

Responsibilities include processing applications/recertifications, identifying overpayments, and preparing materials for hearings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Associate Degree or higher may substitute for required program experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides SNAP/ESAP/TANF eligibility services in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies.
• Conducts daily interviews (phone or face-to-face) for SNAP and ESAP applications and renewals.
• Processes SNAP/ESAP applications and recertifications by determining eligibility and authorizing benefits when applicable.
• Maintains case records and documents activities and events affecting eligibility in the agency system.
• Identifies overpayments and prepares referrals and documents for hearings as directed.
• Participates in required trainings and staff meetings.
• Protects PII and safeguards agency networks and data.
• Performs additional related duties and emergency shelter duties as needed.
