Candidates with a bachelor’s degree can enter the pathways program to become eligible for a provisional SPED license for 2026-27 and beyond, with emphasis on collaboration, IEPs and BSPs, behavior support, assessments, and family conferences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university or institution.
• Foundations of special education course or willingness to take it as a term of employment.
• Will work toward obtaining a provisional Special Education License from the state of Ohio.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• 18+ credit hours in Psychology, Sociology, or Special Education with a minimum GPA of 2.7.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with students, peers, administrators, support staff, and parents.
• Assess and monitor student achievement and maintain documentation for reporting.
• Design and implement instructional strategies and activities.
• Manage student behaviors to create a conducive learning environment.
• Coordinate instructional activities with other staff to maximize learning.
• Participate in professional development and staff meetings.
• Communicate with students and parents about progress and expectations.
• Collaborate with professionals to carry out schoolwide instructional activities.
• Use multimedia technologies to enhance learning.
• Plan lessons based on objectives for varying student abilities.
• Support development and management of IEPs and BSPs.
