Job summary

Oakland Schools is seeking a General Education Para to complement and reinforce instruction at Kurtz Elementary under the supervision of the classroom teacher. The role supports students in regular education classrooms and may involve routine medical assistance as needed.

The position requires a High School diploma or related experience and emphasizes strong communication, record-keeping, and teamwork within school staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with elementary age children preferred.
• Ability to maintain accurate records as required by program guidelines.
• May be required to take a skills test.

Responsibilities

• Complement, supplement and reinforce students' instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in regular education classrooms.
• Work under the direction of the classroom teachers with identified children as required by the program curriculum.
• Participate in regularly scheduled in-service sessions, both at the local and county level.
• Attend staff meetings when requested.
• On an as needed basis paraeducator employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene.
• Keep accurate records on activities with students as required by the program guidelines.
• Perform any other duties as required by the Principal or classroom teacher.
