Job summary

YOSS, Inc. is seeking a paraprofessional to support elementary classrooms at HSES-High Shoals Elementary. The role involves assisting teachers, supervising activities, and reinforcing instructional objectives with individual or small-group work.

The ideal candidate has a two-year degree or higher (or equivalent), along with a paraprofessional certificate or the ability to obtain one. Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of child development are required.

Qualifications

• Two year degree or higher preferred; high school diploma or equivalent and GACE Parapro Assessment required.
• Paraprofessional certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission or ability to obtain such certificate.
• Knowledge of child development and effective interpersonal skills; knowledge of office and media equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers and students by working with students individually or in small groups, assessing performance, reinforcing instruction, motivating learning, assisting with classroom management, and other non-instructional functions.
• Assist teachers in supervising learning activities, circulating within the classroom, and providing assistance and learning support to students.
• Provide instruction to students as prescribed by the supervising teacher; reinforce skills with games or constructive activities.
• Assist teachers in checking and objectively evaluating students’ work.
• Assist in managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order; reinforce rules and escort students as required.
• Assist in preparing lesson plans and learning tools; provide input for classroom activities.
• Diagnose student math and communication skills; monitor progression and document learning records.
• Prepare instructional materials; perform copying, laminating, typing, and filing tasks.
• Coordinate with media center staff for classroom resources; set up equipment.
• Prepare instructional reports and maintain attendance and seating records; learn bus routes.
